Maple Street Dance Space Instructor: Nadia Yousif 892-5214 Middle Eastern Dance, Int./Adv. Nadia Yousif is an accomplished performer, choreographer and instructor. She has a BA in both Dance Studies and Anthropology from the University of Nevada, Las Vegas. In 2003 she studied abroad at the University of Ghana, West Africa where she immersed herself in the traditions of African dance and culture. The previous year, Nadia, who taught Middle Eastern dance at the UNLV Dance Department, was the recipient of the departments Mitzi Huges Scholarship for her commitment and contribution to the study of dance. In addition she was selected to perform at the Edinburgh International Fringe Festival in Scotland for a one-month engagement. She has taught and studied a variety of dance forms for over twenty-five years. Nadia Yousif has recently moved to New Mexico where she is currently earning her masters degree in the area of education, and plans to continue her studies abroad.
Nadia has performed for many Las Vegas commercial venues, nightclubs and local cultural events and has had the great fortune of performing with some of the finest Arabic musicians in the United States, including her husband James Yousif. Nadia works professionally with her husband and they are frequent guest artists, instructors and speakers at dance workshops and symposiums.
She is equally known for her artistic direction and choreography. Nadias work has been presented at the UNLV College of Fine Arts, the Las Vegas Choreographers Showcase, the International Folk Festival, Edinburgh Fringe Festival and throughout Las Vegas dance performance venues. Nadias collaborative efforts with other artists include educational outreach projects, sponsorship of dance workshops and both contemporary and traditional Arabic dance presentations. Her study of Middle Eastern dance includes training with world-renowned Egyptian artists Yousry Sharif, Mahmmound Reda, Aida Nour, Raqia Hassan and numerous others. Nadia draws from her training in Ballet, Jazz, Modern, Flamenco and African dance to further her instruction.
